Leeds Metropolitan University Leeds Met Hong Kong Leeds Met has a long history and can trace its origins back to 1824 when the Leeds Mechanics Institute was founded. Through a series of name changes and mergers with other colleges we have arrived at what is now a pioneering regional and global University. The University’s distinctive Vision and Character, which can be read on this website, is our corporate plan and details a number of key ambitions that the University works towards achieving. It sets the context for everything we do and how we do it. Take some time to read it and you will get a feel for the type of University we are and what we consider important. What we always consider most important though is the student – the student and the student experience should always be the focus of everything we do. Today, with just under 3000 staff delivering courses to nearly 30,000 students in Leeds the University is one of the largest in the UK. The University is really much larger than this though, with a Regional University Network stretching across the UK and including 23 Associate Colleges. In addition we have a large international network stretching across Africa, Europe and Asia. Leeds Met Hong Kong forms part of this international network. Leeds Met first started discussions about delivering courses in partnership with the VTC in 1997 and our first course, Accounting and Finance, commenced in 1999. Since then we have grown steadily and in 2008 we had over 800 students studying on six different degrees. We expect that number to approach or pass 1000 students in 2009. Nearly 2000 students in Hong Kong have now graduated with Leeds Met degrees, a number that increases by several hundred each year. Although we are several thousand miles away from Leeds, Leeds Met Hong Kong is still Leeds Met. Your degrees are exactly the same whether you study here or in Leeds. The quality of the content is the same, the certificate is identical, the international recognition is identical. Leeds Met is committed to Hong Kong and to the service we provide to our students which is why we have a full-time member of staff permanently based here. Whether you are a member of our alumni, a current student, or a future student I look forward to speaking to you and offering you our support.
